nidrā

Translation

sleep

Other Translations

yogic sleep, non-existence, nothingness

Background

  • Sleep is not the cessation of mind (not a break from vṛttis)
  • Even in deep sleep, the mind is still active — occupied with “nothingness”
  • True yogic stillness (samādhi) is awake, aware, and intentional, not drifting into unconsciousness
