This has been a difficult time of year. I've talked with many people just in the past few days who have openly admitted to feeling depressed.
Yoga is not therapy or a cure for depression. However, scientific studies continue to show that contemplative practices, such as yoga and meditation, can be as effective as medication for treating anxiety. Yoga, in its many forms, can help us redefine our experiences during difficult times. That certainly has been the case for me, which is the single biggest reason why I come back to these practices again and again. Practicing yoga, meditation, and chanting continue to leave a wake of positive benefits in my life and I love to share the practices that I find most helpful.
If you are interested in practicing with me, I have a wide variety of offerings coming up this month. Here are a few of them, but others are listed on my schedule:
Restorative Yoga with Reiki and Sound Healing (Jan. 14)
Starting tomorrow, I will be teaming up with yoga teacher & Reiki master Karen Murray to offer Restorative Yoga with Reiki and Sound Healing at Spirit of the Lake. I have attended Karen's restorative and reiki classes as a student and I am thrilled to be partnering with her on these evenings to unwind the stresses of the week. Karen leads the restorative class and also gives a little reiki to all who would like to receive it. I offer the healing sounds of crystal singing bowls, harmonium, chanting, and other sounds. Upcoming dates include Jan. 14 (tomorrow), Feb. 18, and Mar. 24. Register here
Williston classes (Jan. 15 & 18)
My two weekly classes at Williston in Minnetonka continue to fill up (and overfill): Vinyasa Flow on Sundays at 9am and Hatha Yoga on Wednesdays at 6:40pm. Please sign up in advance so we don't violate the fire codes. Free for members, with a drop-in rate of just $12. Register here.
Winter Wellness Fair (Jan. 15)
The Winter Wellness Fair at the Minnesota Arboretum also takes place this Sunday, January 15, 9am-4pm. The Arboretum’s Winter Wellness Fair is designed to help visitors find nourishment for the body, mind, and soul. It includes yoga, meditation classes, reiki, massage, and more! I'll be at the onelove.yoga booth from noon to 5pm, so stop by and say hello.
Self-Care Retreat (Jan. 21)
Next weekend, Saturday, January 21 from 9am to 2pm, I'll be again partnering with Leslie Litfin for a day-long retreat at the Minnetonka Community Education Center called "Focus on the Inner You!" We provide practices to encourage self-care, self-healing, self-love, and rejuvenation. Read more and register here.
Free onelove.yoga classes (ongoing)
During the winter months, onelove.yoga offers free yoga classes at the St. Louis Park Recreation Center and A Better Society (where I have been teaching). You can find the full schedule at onelove.yoga. All of the onelove.yoga teachers are wonderful and I recommend all of the classes. You can find the classes I'm leading on my scehdule. Register here.
Yin Yoga and Sound Healing (ongoing)
After much success in December, I will to continue to offer Yin Yoga and Sound Healing on the Second Sunday of each month at Seven pm at Spirit of the Lake (see what I did there?). Yin yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga suitable for all people. I offer the live sounds of singing bowls, harmonium, mantras, and other sounds. Register here.
