eye of the world

Background

Alain Daniélou, The Myths and Gods of India (Inner Traditions, 1991), quoting the Bhaviṣya Purāṇa:

The sun is visible divinity, the eye of the world, the maker of the day. Eternal, no other deity can be compared to him. He is the source of time. The planets, the stars, the spheres-of-the-elements (Vasus), the divinities-of-life (Rudras), the lord of wind and the lord of fire, and all the other gods are but parts of him.
