Background
Jñāna and gyan are two different spellings and pronunciations of the same Sanskrit word. Both mean knowledge, wisdom, or understanding. The difference reflects how the word gets transliterated and spoken across languages.
In yoga, jñāna points to more than collecting information. It describes seeing clearly through study, reflection, and self-inquiry. Jñāna yoga, the path of knowledge, invites us to look closely at what we think we know and what we can see for ourselves.
