Background
The active practice of binding or anchoring the mind’s attention to a specific physical or conceptual focal point (such as the breath, a focal center, or a philosophical principle). If attention is the initial turning, dhāraṇā is the sustained effort to keep returning the mind to that object every time it drifts, constructing the container for deeper meditation (dhyāna).
