Sanskrit Name

Background

Cow Pose is a gentle backbend from a hands-and-knees table position. The belly lowers toward the floor, the chest moves forward, the shoulder blades draw toward each other, and the gaze lifts slightly. It opens the front of the body and is usually done on an inhale. Keeping some support through the belly helps the low back curve evenly, so it doesn't just sag. The Sanskrit name is widely used, but its source is unclear.
