I was pretty surprised to read that one in four young men said they felt lonely “a lot” on the previous day.
We often think strength means independence. Handling things on our own, not needing help. But it’s connection that keeps us healthy.
The recent Movember report puts it simply:
“Social connection is as vital as food, water, and shelter.”
That sounds about right. We’re social beings. We need to feel like we belong somewhere, especially when life feels hard.
One of the quiet gifts of yoga is how it creates community without forcing it. We arrive together, roll out our mats, breathe the same air, and share silence. There’s no pressure to talk or perform. Just being there, side by side, can remind us that we’re not alone.
Yoga isn’t only about stretching or balance. It’s about showing up. In a yoga class, it’s about being yourself, just as you are.
You, sir, are welcome in my class. Or if there’s a man in your life who could use a space like this, invite him to yoga. We all need places where we can just show up and breathe.
